BYU 2013 Football Season Predictions

Here are my predictions for the 2013 football season.

Aug. 31 BYU @ Virginia Win: (27-17)

Both teams are heading into the season with young quarterbacks. But defense wins championships and BYU’s defense should be solid again this year with the return of Kyle Van Noy. While the game will be no walk in the park for BYU, Virginia really isn’t  all that special. I see BYU winning by 10+ in this game.

Sept. 7 Texas @ BYU Loss: (20-24)

Texas finally looks like the Texas of old as they look to contend for a national title this year. Texas should not be overlooking BYU as a meeting two years ago proved to be quite the dog fight with Texas winning 17-16. While I feel that BYU will give Texas all it can handle, I see BYU coming up a bit short.

Sept. 21 Utah @ BYU Win: (30-23)

You never know what to expect in this game. Most writers couldn’t have even scripted the ending to last year’s game. It seems as though ever game comes down to the last play of the game. This year should be no different. Both teams are implementing a fast paced offense this year which should provide for another exciting game. Utah has BYU’s number as of late but I think BYU gets revenge this time before both teams take a two-year break before playing again in 2016-2017.

Sept. 27  Middle Tennessee @ BYU Win: (37-17)

BYU eats cupcakes for breakfast. Should be an easy win for the cougars.

Oct. 4 BYU @ Utah State Loss: (24-27)

This will be one of the toughest games all year for BYU. Utah St has the best QB in the state and plays well at home. Utah St beat BYU the last time they played each other up in Logan in 2010. Should be an exciting and close game.

Oct. 12 Georgia Tech @ BYU Win: (31-17)

Even though BYU crushed Georgia tech last year, this year is a different season. Georgia tech can only get better this year after looking at last years pathetic performance. While Georgia Tech will be much improved I see BYU winning this game.

Oct. 19 BYU @ Houston Win: (37-23)

Houston looks to rebound after a disappointing 5-7 season last year. Houston which loves to throw the ball, returns a lot of starters on the offense side of the ball which will test BYU’s depleted secondary. BYU will have its hands full but should come out with a victory.

Oct. 25 Boise State @ BYU Win: (23-17)

It is crazy to think that BYU has never beaten Boise St. Will the streak end? Yes. Fans should know that  this isn’t the same Boise St team we have seen in years past. Even in a down year I expect Boise St to give BYU all it can handle. Should be a close one with BYU closing it out down the stretch.

Nov. 9  BYU @ Wisconsin Loss: (17-27)

BYU will be an underdog in this game as teams find wins hard to come by playing in Camp Randall Stadium. A great story-line in this game is that Bronco Mendenhall will be going up against former instate coach Gary Anderson who left Utah St to coach Wisconsin.

Nov. 16 Idaho State  @ BYU Win: (49-6)

Cupcake game. BYU cruises in this one. Great time to prep for Notre Dame the following week.

Nov. 23 BYU @ Notre Dame Win: (24-16)

BYU should have won last years game against Notre Dame. While Notre Dame had a very good team last year, this year looks to be much different. I see BYU pulling off the upset and winning in a close one.

Nov. 30 BYU @ Nevada Win: (34-20)

Nevada is never a pushover which will make the game close. Three 1,000 yard rushers last year. Explosive on offense. KVN will shut them down.

Best Case: 13-0 National Champs!

Worst Case: 7-6 Losing to all the “AQ” teams.

What Will Likely Happen: BYU will finish the season with a 10-3 record with a bowl win and will be ranked in the top 25.
